Application Procedures

 

To apply for your veteran’s benefits you can go online to http://www.gibill.va.gov and click on the Education Benefits link on the left hand side of the web page.  Then click on Education Forms, or you may get the necessary forms in the Registrar’s Office from the VA Certifying Official.   Click on the link below, according to your chapter, for further instructions.  You may also receive general and detailed descriptions of each program from VA online at www.gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/benefits.htm.


  Chapter 30/Chapter 1606/ Chapter 1607

If this is your first time to receive your VA benefits, select form 22-1990 and submit your application online by selecting the VONAPP link and following the instructions or print the application out in Adobe format and mail your application to the address listed on the last page of the application.  If you are approved for benefits, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility by mail from VA.  Bring your Certificate of Eligibility to the Registrar’s Office and complete the Enrollment Certification Request for VA Educational Benefits (provided by your certifying official) and submit both forms to your Tech VA Certifying Official.  You will not be certified until both forms have been received.

If you have received benefits at another university, complete a Change of Program/Place of Training form 22-1995.  You may print a copy online at www.gibill.va.gov under education forms or come to the Registrar’s Office and get one from the VA Certifying Official.  Submit the completed form to your Tech VA Certifying Official. Next, complete the Enrollment Certification Request for VA Educational Benefits (provided by your certifying official). 

If you are changing from Chapter 1606 to Chapter 1607 benefits, complete a Statement In Support of Claim form 21-4138.  You may print a copy online at www.gibill.va.gov under education forms or come to the Registrar’s Office and get one from the VA Certifying Official.  Submit the completed form to your Tech VA certifying official, along with your latest DD-214.

  Chapter 35

If this is the first time for you to receive VA benefits, select form 22-5490 and submit your application online by selecting the VONAPP link and following the instructions or print the application out in Adobe format and mail your application to the address listed on the last page of your application.  If you are approved for benefits, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility by mail from VA.  Bring your Certificate of Eligibility to the Registrar’s Office and complete the Enrollment Certification Request for VA Educational Benefits (provided by your certifying official) and submit both forms to your Tech VA Certifying Official.  You will not be certified unless both forms have been received.

If you have received benefits at another university, complete a Change of Program/Place of Training form 22-5495.  You may print a copy online at www.gibill.va.gov under education forms or come to the Registrar’s Office and get one from the VA Certifying Official.  Submit the completed form to your Tech VA Certifying Official. Next, complete the Enrollment Certification Request for VA Educational Benefits (provided by your certifying official).

  Chapter 31

Your VA counselor will send the Tech VA Certifying Official form 28-1905, to be completed each semester that you enroll in classes.
